Even though i have not put him into the list i think Goldberg is one of the greatest wrestlers ever. His finishers, the jackhammer and the spear are easily one of the best finishers. The Big Show is also good.

I think the list is a good one, though i think Mick Foley should have been included simply because he's a true legend.

Goldberg? Who's Goldberg?

Anyway, my first pick out of the list has gotta be (Whooooooooo!) The Nature Boy, Ric Flair. Without a doubt one of the greatest ever, and even now he's still entertaining!

My second pick was a lot harder, I was stuck between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart. In the end I had to go with HBK only because he's made a succesful comeback and Bret did not. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to choose betweent the two.

That would be the possibilities for "Most Entertaining of all time"
IMO the some of the best wrestlers are:

Chris Benoit
Lance Storm
Dean Malenko
Eddie Guererero
Kurt Angle
Owen Hart
and Jerry Lynn

but of those guys above....i'd choose Bret Hart or Stone Cold

For me it is a tie between Tito Santana Bret Hart Jerry Laawler & Ric Flair I grew up watching these guys in the late seventies / early eighties & there was & is no better.

I think that Hulk hogan is the greatest wrestler, he has acomplished so many things thats others can only imagine.

Ric Flair is the all time greatest wrestler in the business for what he has done in the ring over 4 decades as well as what he has done for the business of pro wrestling and who he has inspired to be wrestlers. Greatest of all time discussions could go on forever, and they are often entertaining, but the idea that the person who made the list mentions Bill Goldberg and Big Show as people that should be on the list and then ranks the jackhammer, which is a suplex into a body slam, and the spear, which is just a shoulder block, as some of the best moves steals all the credibility from this debate.

Alot of people say a wrestler thats not there so you should add a Other

Anyway I think Bert Hart and HBK are the best

Aries
05-26-2004, 07:45 PM
Bert Hary?

Ric Flair would b e the best wrestler, considering how much he has done and revolutionized wrestling, without Flair, upcoming talent like Orton, Cena and the rest wouldnt be possible.

Owen Hart would also go down, *Yes even over Bret Hart* because it taught the world that imitating anything Sting did was stupid and that he's an a**hole. Also, Owen engaged in the great feud with Bret which made some great matches.

Most of the people mentioned on the list were entertainers, not particularly good wrestlers. The likes of Hogan, Taker etc have mastered the art of getting the most from very little, which is an art form in itself.

Personally, I think Bret Hart is the greatest. He could tell an amazing story in the ring, never made things complicated and therefore made them believable and also his moves were always done to perfection. You very rarely, as in almost never, saw a sloppy manoevure from Bret. Gorilla didn't call him the excellence of execution for nothing.

After him, i would place Kurt Angle, Pat Patterson, Harley Race, Eddie Guerreo, Bob Backlund, Lou Thesz, Ricky Steamboat, Dynamite Kid, Chris Benoit, Ric Flair and Jack Briscoe highly.

Best ever: Bret Hart
He wasnt the biggest, he wasnt the fastest, he was just a straight up wrestler. He was able to have good matches with everyone. It didnt matter what style he was up against, he always made it work.

Best Active Wrestler: Chris Jericho
By far the strongest character in wrestling. Can be a heel or face, it doesnt matter. Can job to the up and comming stars(like John Cena, Christan, Batista, ect) and not even lose any steam. Has Charisma, plays to the croud, does great non-wrestling segments. Has never missed a show due to injury. Does not need to be pushed, does not need a title to get over(which is really impressive, imagine Hogan/Triple H if someone took thier crutch away). In ring, hes one of the best; a fast paced style with high flying moves, keeps the croud entertained.

Best Entertainer: Ric Flair
Ric Flair is all about entertaining the crowd. His wrestling style reflects it, hes a clown in the ring. One of the worst wrestlers to ever grace the ring, but is still considered one of the greats, and why... cause he knows how to entertain. Top notched charisma, with a wrestling performance laced with self demeaning jokes. Running and fliping over a turnbuckle only to land on his feet and run to the next closest one. Thinking he has the upper hand he climbs up to the top only to get caught and thrown to the mat. But just when you think the coyote is down, he puts a thumb to the eyes, works them into the corner for a few Wooos(Chops). While he show boats to the crowd, his opponent turns the tables on him and after a barage of hits, he pushes his opponent off, to fight back...? No, to wonder out of the corner and do a face plant to the mat. Its a comedy bit, one he does each and every match, just to get a laugh from the croud.

TheMidnightRambler

I agree with most of what Coldstone said about Hart and Jericho but " Ric Flair is one of the worst wrestlers to grace a ring"???????
Don't wish to sound offensive here but only an idiot cpould make that statement. Yes he is more about entertainment than solid mat skills but come on, one of the worst ever? Ask any of the top superstars of today or any of the past, except the Honky Tonky Man, and they will tell you how great he is, and no, i don't subscribe to the theory that just because people say he is great then he must be. It's my own opinion as well. He may be no Dean Malenko or Bret Hart but he is sure as hell isn't Damien DeMento or Giant Gonzales either. for proof of his past talents, watch any wcw ppv up to about 1996. For proof of his present ability, watch his title shot against HHH from last year, you know the one were EVERY superstar came out and did an impromptu show of appreciation for a legend.

The triple h title match was in Rics home town, wwe always trys to put the home towner over. just recently they did the same with Y2J in Winnipeg on Raw(did same with ray and angle too).

Wrestling is about team work, playing off your opponant. Ric doesnt ever do this. He rarely does his opponants spots. When ever he gets into trouble he goes for his comedy bit. In some matches he has done the flip over the top rope bit 2-3 times in a row. he didnt know what to do next in the ring, so he falls back on his humor.
When Ric flair was first in the WWe(F at the time), in the title match in which he challenged and defeated Randy Savage for the WWf title on the Saturday Night Main Event. He was suppost to do a bunch of spots in the match that Vince had planned. Ric did none of them, he just did his same old match bit. After the match a angry Vince met Ric at the curtain and told him to go right back out there and do the match again. Ric causaly went back out and a very tired Randy Savage followed. This was the point that wwf relized Ric could not play with the big boys.
In the ring you give and you take, Ric takes it all and gives nothing back. That makes him a bad wrestler.

Best wrestler ever: Pedro Morales
No body remember Pedro Morales, but Pedro was the first to have all three best WWF (WWE) titles: the world heavyweight champ, tag team champ and intercontinental champion.

Best entretainer: hard to tell but i have someones in mind: Ric Flair, Eugene, Rico and doink the clown.

Double A, Arn "The Enforcer" Anderson was always my favorite growing up and will always be my favorite. The Four Horsemen of Flair, Blanchard and The Minnesota Wrecking Crew made me watch wrestling every week.

When Blanchard and AA tagged together.. classic wrestling.. I miss the days of a team working a body part for the entire match and having the opponent actually sell it properly like the old days..

I have to put in a plug for Nick Bockwinkel too here, AWA was always on where I lived so I got to watch him a lot. A truly great AWA Champion.

I think the most entertaining and my pick for one of the best technical wrestlers has to go to Bobby Eaton. The Midnight Express ranked right up there with me as well. The Midnight Express v Rock and Roll Express scaffold matches were unbelievable.

Entertainment wise, Stone Cold is the best. He pratically kept the WWE alive when the monday night war was going on between them and WCW. His feud with Vince kept so many fans from turning to WCW for good, including me (who watch both at the time). This is why i say he is the greatest.

BatistaIsA_Monster

There's a reason he's called "The best their is, the best their was, and the best their ever will be." It isn't only a slogan. Bret Hart is without a shadow of a doubt the greatest wrestler their has been to this date. Only Triple H has come close to executing as well as the King, Bret Hart. While the other wrestlers metioned are entertaining, and could with arguement be even better at entertainment, the overwall title goes to this man. I am currently, most entertained by Chris Jericho (who has a lot of potential, but it isn't being used as well as he could), by Batista (the man is a monster, and actually has some personality- displayed through arrogance... I like it. He should always stay heel in my opinion. He would probably be wasted if turned, and they'd make him into a boring ass Goldberg. ), and Triple H (who always comes up with great material, is a fine wrestler and and a great entertainer-he's also a hell of a heel).
Anyway, there's other interesting characters. One I like but can't watch on Upn cause I don't get the station, is Eddie Guerrero. He is finally being used pretty well, esp. in that they put him on top of the pecking order. He is really talented, and entertaining, and what makes him better is that he lies, he steals, and he cheats (remember when he faced Angle and loosened his shoe during the match - that is just plain smart, and heel material - he should always lie, steal, and cheat, even if the fans love him).

I Was a little suprised to see HBK at the top even though I am a huge fan. If I had to guess who everyone would pick for the best I would have said "The Hitman". I Guess i was wrong: and of couse my pick would have to be Shawn Michaels.

Just because Ric Flair didn't do the spots he was supposed to in one match against Savage, that does not prove he takes all and gives nothing back. It simply means that in that one match he didn't, he may have had a variety of reasons why he didn't do them, like they were stupid, or he was pissed off at management( which takes away no wrestling ability, just professionalism) or he didn't think the crowd were into the match enough. Anyway, i assume the "big boys" you are referring to are the likes of Sid, Hogan, Papa Shango and The Big Bossman, who were big names back then. Even Virgil could hold his own with them, never mind Flair. Besides, that whole premise of Flair taking all and giving nothing is just not factually correct. He may not "give all" all the time but then a football player doesn't play well in every game, he has good and bad ones. Just watch any Flair-Steamboat match, particularly the broadways, and see for yourself.

It may not be everyones choice but yes in my opinion shawn is the greatest, purely for the skill he had, the determination and dedication he has, and the fact that unlike many returns, his has worked well even at a reduced ability he still manages to pull off convincing work.

Obviously there are people who have a lot of technical skill, and we all know who benoit etc etc etc..... but there are very few people who have the skill and the personality all together , and as this is a personal choice, that is what I look for.

When i posted this topic i didn't specify who i thought was the greatest wrestler so here goes. My decisions aere probably going to prove controversal but everyone should have there own personal opinion anyway...
I would say the greatest wrestler is Stone Cold Steve Austin, he may not be able to eniciate breathtaking moves and complete technically challenging moves; but in my eyes he can sure fight. He has overcome many great wrestlers and beat most; he uses she desperation and will not stop at nothing to win. Austin played a major part in the Raw is War versus WcW Nitro battle and allthough he has a tough guy image he can entertain the crowd and adapt easily; he works well as both a face or heel. For these reasons i would say Austin is the Greatest wreslter ever.

My personal favourite, however is the legendary Hollywood Hulk Hogan. I would say that this amn is the most entertaining wrestler ever, not matter what he does he will always have the crowd behind, even when he was with the Nwo people still secretly liked him. He is unbelievable famous if you went up to a random person in the street, unless they are thick, they should be able to tell you who he is. I won't dwell on for long i'll just say whatever you think he is my favourite wrestler.

I'm going to have to say that its a close tie between:

Bret Hart - best overall real wrestler and could have a good match with anyone (try and prove me worng) - (Fat guys YokoZona) (Tall Guys, Taker, Nash) (Fast guys - HBK - Owen) (Slow guys - Lawler, Bob Backland)

HBK - Great wrestler with the ability to carry a long match, awsome entertainer with D-X thing and other great stuff.

Taker - Has Been around and on top for over 12 years with strong storylines and can help anyone as he has gained veteran status

Hulk Hogan - straight up he was apart of the beggining of wrestling, with out him it may not have ever launched off and became of the best things on cable

Austin - Was the single greatest thing for the WWE when they were battleing with WCW and was the only reason they survived and later won the Battle.

After looking at the current poll, i find it hard to beleive that Jimmy Snuka hasn't got a single vote; the very man that started off the whole cruserweight style. I nkow he may not be the greatest wrestler ever but i would have expected him to get at least one or two votes. Also HHH, The Game, is also suprisingly starved of votes. I would of thought HHH would be major contender. Anyways i guess i was wrong...

Misterio!!! Wow.....crazyness

Anyway why the hell did i never reply to this is the past. Whatever i guess it was when there was about 10000 other "Best Wrestler" Posts....

Well alot of people i believe think they are obligated to pick a wrestler from the past......trust me innovation is good, but its doesnt mean its the best. All in all i had to think of alot of things, In Ring Ability, The ability to become over with a crowd, and mic skills.....two wrestlers came to mind

Kurt Angle- One of 2 wrestlers who i truly think can play a heel just as well as a face. This guy is so good he made Shane McMahon look like a god!! Angle can make the crappiest wrestler look good, which is somthing i dont think Michaels or Hart could do.

Chris Jericho- If you watch a tape of Jericho from ECW or WCW ou will notice one thing.....this guy hasnt missed a beat. He has the same talent he did when we was feuding with Dean Melenko for the WCW cruisewrweight title back in 97. He also plays the greatest heel ever, when he was the first Undisputed Champion he was at his prime i think, Hell he was like saitan because he beat THE WWE HERO's The Rock and Stone Cold in the same night. But then he can almost beat THE EVIL HHH and look like Jesus.

There are alot of guys i would put up there but these two our on a level of there own.

To say that Kurt Angle isn't an all time great and Rey Mysterio is an all time great, is like saying that pizza tastes of sh** and car-oil tastes great.

Shawn Michaels has always been my top performer since I was a kid. My opinions have changed now though and I prefer wrestling ability more than charisma. HBK got me into wrestling so he got my sentimental vote, but really Kurt Angle, Bret Hart or Chris Benoit should be considered the best (I can hear keyboards clicking already with anti-Benoit posts!)

What the f*** are you on Racheb? I hope this post gets you even more mad. I'll try to keep it concise because you are clearly a confused person and I wouldn't want to exacerbate that.

The reason I mentioned Angle and Benoit is because they weren't in the opinion poll, and I thought they should be. So I was not putting words in your mouth. I would also venture that most words I could put in your gob would be beyond your vocabulary.

Rey Mysterio has no-way been tested enough for anyone to say he is the greatest of all time. I mean, has he had the longevity of Hogan or Flair? No. Has he got the charisma of Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin or The Rock? No. Is he a great scientific technical wrestler like Benoit, Kurt Angle, Bret Hart? No. Has he proven his worth as a wrestler and headlined shows across the world in packed out venues and on PPV? No. So is he the best of all time? HELL NO!

It's only this year we've seen Mysterio be pushed and we're now finding out what he's really made of. Will he be considered the best in the future? Well, possibly. But right now he cannot be considered experienced enough for us to know. In fact you haven't even offered us one good reason why Mysterio is the best of all time (and if you post that Rey is your "homeboy" and that "he doin good laterly" (sic) then your even more retarded than I thought.)

Now if you want to argue that Mysterio is better than Angle go ahead. Embarrass yourself. If you want to say Mysterio is better than those I just mentioned that's fine. Embarrass yourself. At least give a reason.

And before you do start embarrassing yourself a) learn to spell b) learn the correct use of the apostrophe c) use correct grammar and d) don't use analogies about Michael Jackson and Usher (cause that's just plain weird)

Bass.

There's no way that this isn't an opinion thread. No one has ever just been the official undesputed best professional wrestler from all angles ever. I would say that if anything, this is more of a thread to see what people like in wrestlers. For example, if you would ask me who the best "wrestler is" I would say Bryan Danielson. I think he's a better wrestler than any other. But then you ask about his gimmick and mic skills, and I would cross him off the list. When it comes to mic skills, I would have to go with Rock or Christian or Stone Cold. When it comes to charisma, it's hard to dispute that the greatest ever was Hulk Hogan. To some how mix all of that together would be impossible to pick one person as the undisputed best. Names to be mentioned as great blends would be Bret Hart, HBK, Ric Flair, Undertaker, HHH, etc. But "in my opinion" it's impossible to point a finger at one person and say "him."

Obvious one is Hulk Hogan, but then you can't forget Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka, Terry Funk, Andre The Giant and of course for anyone living in Memphis or following the Memphis territory, Jerry 'The King' Lawler.

The 90s... A split decade as early on many of the old faces reigned supreme... The best entertainers?
Hulk Hogan's reign continued not just in the WWF but later in WCW, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash also get a mention for their departures, Randy Savage and Mr. Perfect and then the Attitude era kicks in and you have Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Mankind, Shawn Michaels and so many other names...

So asking for a best wrestler of all time is almost impossible - some of the names that remained at the top of their game longest... Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan... Both strong candidates but both men who's top of their game was really just a set pattern of moves as opposed to true wrestling.

Wrestling-wise... Many trainees of the Hart Dungeon will have to be near the top of a list, including the Hart family itself.

Of course, Triple H is a good case for question, but review some of his title reigns and I believe them to be him using his backstage pull. He's a damn good wrestler as he's proven time and time again, but the only way he'll honestly break Ric's record is by using his backstage connections in my honest opinion...

So, my decision... I'm indecisive. I can't name the greatest wrestler of all time - there's too many areas to judge upon.

I picked Flair?

Why?

Cause he did what he did for over 3 decades. He was in the upper-mid to main event card for over 20 years.

I really dont understand how Stone Cold is 2nd in this. He was on top for what 3-4 years at most? His ring work was AWFUL. Talk about boring wrestling. He was a good wrestler in WCW as Stunning Steve but obviously no one remembers that hence why its STONE COLD Steve Austin instead of just Steve Austin.

I dont have have a problem with HBK running away with this because I think time has alot to do with the greatest of all time talk.

I mean, people consider Led Zeppelin and The Beatles the greatest of all time. Say Zeppelin only put out I-II, forget IV, V, House of Holy etc. and forget about The Beatles after Sgt. Pepper, would they be considered the greatest of all time?

No, they wouldnt. Time and the amount of work done has alot to do with that. The same holds true for wrestling IMO.

I agree with Rdarnz, this is an impossible vote as you have to judge for all round ability and the thing is that we have a lot of people who started watching around the attitude era and then some people who started watching around the Evolution/Cena era.
My oppinion is that the best wrestlers and i say wrestlers plural is because you cannot chose just one person are.
Kurt Angle
Chris Beniot
